Craig Marks was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1929. He received Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology, and continued his education there, earning an MS degree and PhD. Marks was a Chief Engineer for General Motors, where he was instrumental in the development of the hydrogen fuel cell and GM's electric vehicles, Electrovan and Electrovair.
